Vivo V30 vs Vivo V30 Pro: How the Premium Smartphones Stack Up

Vivo V30 Vs Vivo V30 Pro

Vivo recently launched two new premium smartphones in India – the Vivo V30 and the Vivo V30 Pro. As the successor to the popular Vivo V17 series, these handsets boast some impressive specs and the latest technology. But how exactly do these two 5G-ready phones compare? Let’s take a detailed look.

Display and Design

Both phones sport a similar 6.78-inch full HD+ AMOLED display with a 20:9 aspect ratio. However, the V30 Pro ups the ante with a higher 144Hz refresh rate compared to the 120Hz panel on the regular V30. The display is also protected by Schott Xensation Up glass on both models.

In terms of design, the Vivo V30 and V30 Pro feature a punch-hole cutout at the front to house the 32MP selfie camera. The back panel on both phones sports a rectangular camera module but with differing camera specifications. Available colors include Black and Blue for the V30 and Red for the V30 Pro.

This is where the Vivo V30 Pro pulls ahead significantly. It boasts a 50MP Samsung ISOCELL GNV sensor with OIS as the main camera. The other three rear cameras include a 50MP portrait camera with 2x optical zoom and OIS, an 8MP super wide-angle camera, and another 50MP sensor acting as the periscope camera with 5x optical zoom and OIS.

The regular Vivo V30 pales in comparison with ‘only’ a 64MP main camera joined by an 8MP super wide-angle shooter and a 2MP macro camera. So if top-notch photography is a priority, the V30 Pro is clearly the superior choice.

Processor, RAM and Storage

Under the hood, the Vivo V30 Pro comes equipped with MediaTek’s latest Dimensity 8200 octa-core 5G chip based on TSMC’s second-gen 5nm process. Coupled with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, it promises blazing fast performance. Internal UFS 4.0 storage options for the V30 Pro include 128GB and 256GB.

The Vivo V30 gets a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor which is also built on TSMC’s 4nm process. While not slow by any means, it trails behind the V30 Pro’s Dimensity chip in benchmarks. RAM and storage on the V30 stand at 8GB and 128GB respectively.

Battery and Charging

Fueling these hardware specs are sizeable batteries on both devices. The V30 Pro integrates a 5000 mAh pack while the V30 gets a 4895 mAh unit. Both phones support 100W Flash Charge fast charging to quickly top up the batteries. However, the V30 Pro offers faster wired charging at up to 120W.

Software and Connectivity

As you would expect from Vivo phones, the V30 series ships with Android 14 out of the box. Vivo’s Fun Touch OS 14 handles UI customizations and feature additions on top of stock Android. For biometrics, both models come equipped with an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Connection options common across the two handsets include 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, NFC, USB-C port, and more. The V30 Pro also offers faster Wi-Fi 6E support in addition.

Vivo v30 and v30 pro Price

The Vivo V30 retails at Rs. 33,990 for the sole 8GB/128GB variant in India. Interested buyers can purchase the device on Flipkart and Vivo’s online store starting from January 2023.

As for the higher-end Vivo V30 Pro, its price stands at Rs. 42,990 for 8GB/128GB while the 12GB/256GB model costs Rs. 47,990. Pre-bookings are already open for the Pro model on major online and offline stores in India with wide availability from end-January.

With powerful internals and versatile camera hardware, the Vivo V30 Pro clearly stands tall over the vanilla V30 model. For shoppers wanting cutting-edge performance and photography chops without completely breaking the bank, the V30 Pro seems to offer excellent value as an all-round premium 5G smartphone. The standard V30 remains a good lower-cost alternative but expects compromises in some areas vis-a-vis the Pro variant.
